TYPOGRAPHIC FROG

Image
This is an artwork that helps students to understand TONE. They use collage to create tonal variations with newsprint. Coloured typographic paper is used to collage the background. The subject of the artwork is a frog which is printed for students (lesson prep) on A3 size paper as a monochromatic image.    I think students will like creating this artwork as collage is such a hands-on technique and students only have to follow the tones that appear on the photocopied A3 image. They do have to make artistic decisions and they use colour on the frog with Posca pens (they just love Posca pens!!) as stippling.          Coloured typographic paper used to collage the background. I have printed off other colours for the students to choose from - red, yellow, pink, dark green, light green, light blue.     Monochromatic newsprint used to collage the frog.   Monochromatic typographic paper for collaging the object the frog sits on.

1.       Purchase a class set of white plates from Kmart, Reject Shop, etc. You do not have to spend a lot of money on the quality of the plates as the media used is not food safe. 2.       You will need a supply of Posca pens, metallic pens and black markers. TIP: Students should create a design by tracing around the edge of the plate onto a piece or paper. A design can then be created to fit the circular shape. 3.       The design should be sketched onto the plate surface with a thin Artline pen. Mistakes can be easily rubbed away. 4.       Colour the design with the Poscas and metallic pens. Some blending of colours can be achieved while the paint is still wet. 5.       Students need to be careful when working on their plate as the paint does not dry instantly and smudging can occur very easily. 6.       Black texta lines are added to create definition to the design. 7.       Place the plate (or plates) in a cool oven. Turn the temperature to 150 degrees and “b
