STUDENT WORKS - CERAMICS - Dragon Eggs - Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.

Image
Today, we painted our dragon eggs that we made on the 21.9.2018. The eggs had 7 days to dry and there were very few cracks in the air dry clay. The students were very keen to paint their eggs..... These are all the eggs together...   Blending coloured paint from one colour to the next made a very colourful background behind the bling jewels.

PHOTOGRAMS and CHEMOGRAMS - a request for more information

Hope this helps.......   I made all my chemograms in the darkroom. We need the sink area to ensure I complied with workplace health and safety policies. I also had ready access to safe lights and normal lights which was very handy.     The trick to making a successful fixer chemogram is to wash the fixer off the photo paper BEFORE it goes into the developer. If not, the developer will become contaminated very quickly and loose its ability to work on the photo paper.    Once the fixer chemogram is in the developer, you need to remove it as soon as the desired effect is achieved. Wash off the developer as quickly as possible. As long as the developer is in contact with the silver halides in the paper, they will keep on developing until it is removed.    One of my biggest tricks when working with developer and fixer chemicals is to prepare them with warm-hot water. The heat makes the...

These artworks from a Year 3/4 group (aged 8 - 9 years old). We didn't get to finish them off unfortunately but they look pretty good. The students will finish off shading individual shapes in the background surrounding their dog artwork using coloured pencils.    I am sure the artworks will be spectacular when they are full completed.

STUDENT ARTWORKS COMPLETED - CLAY WORK - Low Relief Sculpture - Year 5 and 6

Image
As promised, here are the Year 5/6 ceramic plates we made on 11.8.2018. Students sand papered  the edges of their plates to remove excess clay that always hangs over the edge of the mould. They then gave the top part of the plate a light coat of white acrylic paint to act as an undercoat.    To paint and decorate our plates we used acrylic paint. The paint was absorbed pretty rapidly so students had to work quickly when blending colours. As I had taught them how to do this on a canvas painting, they adapted well to having to work faster than normal.    We did some drybrushing with metallic bronze and warm silver to highlight textures carved into the clay.    When the students were finished, I gave their plates a coat of gloss spray vanish but I soon realised that I had to give the plates three coats. Even though the clay was dry and had layers of acrylic paint, it was still very absorbent. Three coats ...
