STUDENT ARTWORKS - Year 5/6 - Stage 3 GEOGRAPHY CONTENT SYLLABUS Year 5/6

Image
This artwork is fast turning into one of those "never fails to please" artworks. Today, I presented the artwork to a Year 5/6 combination class and they loved it.    I demonstrated how to blend the colours (paint) together using the "wet-on-wet" technique. It enabled many of the students to take their painting skills to a more advanced  stage. they called the technique "the rainbow style" but we all knew what we were talking about.    The motivation level increased dramatically when students began to paint. Many explained that they felt like they were painting like a real artist. I was pleased to know that a simple little demonstration could have such a positive effect.    This class had begun an in depth study of Thailand and it was during the lesson that I realised I could have incorporated some design icons associated with the art of Thailand into their artworks.    The following pieces of information come from the Stage 3 Geog...

SAVE the GREAT BARRIER REEF - Sustainability (syllabus content) and Steampunk Art

Image
2018 is the International Year of Reefs but I wasn't aware of this until I had already created this artwork. I made the discovery while I was surfing around through Pinterest looking for other ideas.    It made perfect sense to base the artwork on this initiative as it included the Great Barrier Reef, one of Australia's many tourist destinations and one of our greatest assets.        The following pieces of information come from the Stage 2 Geography Content: * Place: the significance of places and what they are like eg natural and human features and characteristics of different places and their similarities and differences; how people’s perceptions about places influence their responses and actions to protect them. * Environment: the significance of the environment in human life, and the important interrelationships between humans and the environment eg how climate and environment influence settlement patterns; inte...

STUDENT ARTWORKS - Year 4 - PAINTED AND PATTERNED ARTWORK

Image
Although we didn't get the artworks completed, I was impressed with what my students did manage to get done. The patterning was about half finished, the background geometric shapes were also about half done, there were no white Posca pen outlines and we never got to neaten up the black marker lines throughout.    Still these examples look pretty good. Well done Year 4W!!!!

UNDER and OVER PAINTING with Stencilling

Image
I was surfing around Pinterest and saw an artwork created by Sue Davis and hat image became my inspiration for this artwork.    My artwork is much simpler as I will be presenting it to primary school students. I do love her artwork though.... (The gold paint in my artwork appears as lime green. This was the result ofbad lighting and I could not fix it via photo editing. Sorry.)       I found silhouettes of birds on Pinterest and created an A4 page of shapes that student could cut out and use as stencils on their artwork.    I thought that this was also a good way for them to fill in their time while I dried their painted backgrounds with my trusty hair dryer.    Students can also spend their time drawing simple branches and leaves onto newspaper and cutting those out as well.           I will create other artworks using the same under painting ...

TEACHING RESOURCE - CLAY WORK BOOKLET - BASIC INFORMATION

Image
I put together a booklet for the staff of the primary school I work in. They were wanting to learn about clay and some ideas of what they could do with their students.    Following are pages from the booklet in jpeg format. Feel free to use it or any part of it. I collected information and ideas from Pinterest and there is no intention of claiming any of the ideas or sculpture works as my own. Full credit goes to those talented and creative people who created them, including Kimmy Cantrell .  I have included my own clay work relief sculpture plate at the end......               I will be adding more ideas to this booklet as I come across them....
