ALPHABET DRAWING with Student Artworks - Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2
TEACHER EXAMPLE:
STUDENT ARTWORKS:
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Students will select either the letter S or the letter F background paper. I found some vintage dictionary paper on Pinterest, imported it into Art Studio and layered on the letter "F" or "S". Printed onto A4 sized watercolour paper.
2. Student will then be issued with the Resource Image. They have the option of drawing either one or two of the animals onto the dictionary background. Sketch in lead pencil.
RESOURCE IMAGES
BACKGROUND WATERCOLOUR PAPER
EXAMPLES OF COMPOSITION
I printed off poster size examples to show the students how they could arrange the animals on the background. (A little bit of learning about composition.)
TEACHER EXAMPLE
I cheated....I printed a pic of a fish (goldfish) onto the watercolour paper background. I just didn't have time to draw something up....ooops....
3. Colour the sketch using watercolour pencils. Demonstrate how to blend from one colour to the next. Encourage the use of lots of colour.
4. Go over the watercolour pencil work with clean water and a paintbrush. Demonstrate how to do this so that bright, uncontaminated colours can be maintained.
5. The artwork needs to be dry before commencing the next Step. I use a hairdryer to speed up the process.
6. With a black marker go over the outlines of the animals.
7. Using a fine tip pen or Artline 0.2, draw over the details, such as scales.
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE OPTIONAL:
8.Using glue in a squeeze bottle with a small nib, draw on some lines on the animal. Could be lines in the fins, some scales, etc.
9. Gently shake some glitter onto the glue lines then gently shake off the excess glitter. I shake the artwork onto a piece of clean paper which I then use to funnel the excess glitter back into the container so it can be used again. The glitter I have comes in a container with a lid that has perforated holes. You use the container like a salt shaker. In fact, putting glitter into a salt shaker was a trick I used many years ago.
