PLATE DECORATION - Aussie Animals

1.      Purchase a class set of white plates from Kmart, Reject Shop, etc. You do not have to spend a lot of money on the quality of the plates as the media used is not food safe.
2.      You will need a supply of Posca pens, metallic pens and black markers.
TIP: Students should create a design by tracing around the edge of the plate onto a piece or paper. A design can then be created to fit the circular shape.
3.      The design should be sketched onto the plate surface with a thin Artline pen. Mistakes can be easily rubbed away.
4.      Colour the design with the Poscas and metallic pens. Some blending of colours can be achieved while the paint is still wet.
5.      Students need to be careful when working on their plate as the paint does not dry instantly and smudging can occur very easily.
6.      Black texta lines are added to create definition to the design.
7.      Place the plate (or plates) in a cool oven. Turn the temperature to 150 degrees and “bake” the plate (or plates) for 45 minutes.
8.       Leave the plates in the oven as remove them after the oven has cooled.
9.      Spray the design with a gloss varnish to seal and protect the design.
