Dreams and Fantasies - Year 8 Artwork



PROCEDURE:
1.        Students will view the Notebook Presentation that introduces them to requirement of this artwork and the theme.
2.        2. Student need to create 3 designs in their art book using the Rule of Thirds grid to compose their ideas.
3.        3. Select the best design and draw it onto a canvas. Canvas size; 45cm x 45cm or bigger. Draw the grid onto the canvas and copy the design on.
4.        4. If a canvas is not acquired, students will be issued with a half sheet of cardboard.
5.        5. LAYER 1: Coloured INK - Students select the warm or cool colour group and fill in the artwork with only the colours from the selected colour group. 
6.        LAYER 2: Paint – Student apply paint using the opposite colours to Layer 1. Paint is applied as dry brush or any expressive technique. It is important not to completely hide the ink layer/colours.
7.        LAYER 3:  Paint – Student apply paint using the opposite colours to Layer 1. Paint is applied as dry brush or any expressive technique. It is important not to completely hide the colours from Layer 1 and Layer 2.
8.        Redraw the entire artwork to re-establish the outlines with black markers.
9.        Using POSCA PENS, add additional line work and colour to the artwork.
10.     Outline the microscopic monster with a thick outline – approx 5-6mm.
  1. With WHITE POSCA PEN, carefully go around the edge of the black outline of the microscopic monster. This white outline can be made thicker, depending on the overall appearance.

    Students had a booklet printed with these papges so that they could write in the answers to questions, etc.

   I put together a booklet for the staff of the primary school I work in. They were wanting to learn about clay and some ideas of what they could do with their students.    Following are pages from the booklet in jpeg format. Feel free to use it or any part of it. Blind Contour Drawing - Portraiture

   Before you start this artwork, I would suggest you talk to students about the difference between various drawing techniques. I got the idea from Pinterest but modified it to suit my needs.    There are two artworks that can be done. One uses coloured highlighters with black markers, the other uses watercolour paper, watercolour pencils, black markers, metallic markers and oil crayons. Resource Images: I made up a simple laminated worksheet that has four pics of people that the students can use to make their blind contour drawings with.   ARTWORK 1: 1. Using the Resource Images and a lead pencil,  students are to make 3 or 4 blind contour drawings on  A3 drawing paper. 2. Students then trace over ALL LINES with a black marker. STUDENT ARTWORKS - NEW CUBISM with Kindergarten/Year 1 Composite Class

I first posted this artwork back on 21st October, 2008 so it was time to drag it back out again. It is such an easy artwork to do with any age students as Cubism allows students to create images that don't rely on any true elements of realism and proportion. If their artwork looks weird that's great. This is the latest collection of artworks from a Ms Parkinson's Kindy/Year 1 composite class at Windsor Public School (NSW, Australia). We had a great time creating these images and the students enjoyed using watercolour pencils and posca pens.  The white posca pen outlining was done by myself and some Year 6 helpers. I did add teeth and highlights in the eyes if the student asked me.
